Rhode Island Did Not Always Comply With State Requirements on Medicaid Payments for Hospice Services
The Rhode Island Executive Office of Health and Human Services, Office of Medicaid (State agency), did not always make Medicaid payments for hospice services in accordance with State requirements. Specifically, the State agency did not use the correct nursing home per diem rate for 185 of the 1,350 hospice room and board claims we reviewed. As a result, the State agency's claim for hospice room and board services was overstated by a net amount of approximately $9,000 ($6,000 Federal share).
