Investigation Details

On August 20, 2018, Joseph Stroup was sentenced to 2 years in prison and ordered to pay $533,624 in restitution and a $100 special assessment following his guilty plea to one count of failure to pay child support. Stroup had been a fugitive for nearly 20 years. He owed more than $560,000 in child support and was recently located in Calgary, Canada, based on a tip from a Canadian national who identified the fugitive on the HHS OIG Child Support Enforcement website. Stroup, who had been living in Canada under an assumed identity, was detained by the Canadian Border Services Agency and transported to the United States on February 15, 2018.
