OIG administers the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU or Unit) grant awards, annually recertifies each Unit, and oversees the Units’ compliance with the requirements of the grant and adherence to 12 established performance standards that reflect practices identified by OIG and MFCUs that will improve Unit effectiveness. As part of this oversight, OIG conducts periodic onsite inspections of Units and issues public reports of its findings and observations.
Correction Notice
This report was originally issued on September 23, 2026. In the report, OIG misstated the numbers of global and nonglobal cases in the background methodology and detailed methodology. The correct numbers are 468 global cases and 420 nonglobal cases, not 464 global cases and 424 nonglobal cases as noted on pages 4 and 22 in the original report. The change does not impact any findings, observations, or recommendations in the report. We have corrected this information and issued the corrected report on October 7, 2026; please use this version.
